Berlin brewery crafts a new pale ale to help raise funds for cancer group
BERLIN ― Susan and George Walker, owners of Whitehorse Brewery, have created another craft beer for a cause about which they are passionate. Whitehorse Brewery just created “Hope by Cancer Bridges,” a blood orange pale ale for Cancer Bridges, 2816 Smallman St., Pittsburgh, which offers unique programming to meet the needs of the family. It provides all-free services to anyone impacted by cancer including the diagnosed, their family members and those who have lost someone to cancer to 35 counties including Somerset.

Supervisor to attend solar workshop
A representative of Liberty Township will join other municipal leaders to learn about utility-scale solar systems at a workshop in Bedford later this month. The topic was among several items discussed at the July meeting of the Liberty Township Supervisors, held in the township municipal building in East Saxton.

Joseph M. Roach, age 41, of Middlesex Township, suddenly on July 3, 2024. Born in Somerset, PA on March 21, 1983, son of John R. "Jack" Roach and Ruth Schneider Roach. Beloved husband for 14 years of Andrea L. Woroszylo Roach. Loving father of Joseph M. Roach, Jr. and Riley Roach. Brother of Jennifer Allen (Arthur "Reeg") and John R. Roach, Jr. (Diane). Son-in-Law of Joseph Woroszylo and Patricia Fabyanic Woroszylo. Brother-in-Law of Trisha Woroszylo. Also survived by his beloved long haired retriever "Maverick".
Roberta Lois Miller
Roberta Lois Miller, 93, Meyersdale, died July 4, 2024 at Misty's Urban Manor. Born in Salisbury on August 2, 1930 to the late Robert and Eva (Meese) Landis. Preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Miller. Sisters, Dorothy June and Anna Landis. Survived by her son, James Robert (Gloria) Miller. Daughters, Rebecca Ann (Gerhard) Kaselow and Lisa Michele Miller. Grandchildren; Mary Beth (Colonel Paul) Cote, Lieutenant Colonel Michael (Adrienne) Sines, Tess Elizabeth (Aaron) Schafer, and Andrew James (Lucaya) Miller. Great Grandchildren; Marina, Aiden, and Bridget Cote, Lily and Owen Sines, and Finley Schafer. Roberta was a member of the Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church where she was the organist for many years. She volunteered at the Historical Society. Roberta and her husband were very involved in community activities. Roberta played the organ in hundreds of weddings. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church from 2-4:00 PM and 6-8:00 PM. Viewing at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 prior to the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the Church with Pastor Randy Haulk officiating, Interment will be in the Meyersdale Area Union Cemetery. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice, Dr. Platt, Dr. Higbee, and forever grateful to Misty's Urban Manor and all those who have helped them in the past year. Norma L Pile (Barnhart), of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2024. A native of Stoystown, PA, she was born on May 28, 1930 to the late David and Fern Barnhart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Pile, sister Joan Zimmerman, and brother Lynn Barnhart.
Dunham's Walk-Off Lifts Somerset Over Reading In Series Opener
The Somerset Patriots walked-off the Reading Fightin Phils in a 7-6 victory on Monday night in game one of a six-game series at TD Bank Ballpark. Somerset stole a season-high seven bases in the contest, which matches the single game Patriots Double-A era record. The Patriots have won six of their first seven games to begin the second half of the season. Over the first seven games of the second half, Somerset leads all of Double-A with a .291 BA, 52 R, 73 H, 32 XBH, and 124 TB as a team.

Charges bound over in alleged sexual assault
A New Enterprise man appeared in Central Court on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing on charges related to the alleged sexual assault of a child. Charles W. Oberman, 39, is facing two first-degree felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a person less than the age of 16 and a first-degree felony count of aggravated indecent assault of a child.
