Cecelia Mae Weller
Cecelia Mae Weller, 85, passed away on April 5, 2024, in Riverside, CA after previously residing in Hemet, CA for many years. Born on January 5, 1939, to Fred Arthur and Lillian Marie (Sullivan) Derencin. After graduating from Somerset High School in 1956, Cecelia married Ralph Edward Weller in 1957, and they welcomed their only child, son Timothy Lee, in 1958. The family moved to California in 1963. Cecelia was widowed by the loss of her beloved husband Ralph in 2013, and the family takes comfort in knowing that they are now reunited for eternity. A graveside service will be held at St. John’s Cemetery on July 13, 2024, at 10 a.m. The service will be conducted by Rev. Stephen Zirkle of the Somerset Nazarene Church.

Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Roger Whisner. Roger passed away Friday, June 25, at UPMC Western Maryland in Cumberland. Roger grew up here, went to school here and had many childhood friends. He was one of the founders of Green Spring Community Park. Roger served on many committees and was a member of several organizations. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Hyndman man facing charges for alleged probation violations
A Hyndman man is facing 11 felony charges after his probation officer alerted state police that he was allegedly in possession of multiple firearms and controlled substances. James I. Kamauf, 46, was arraigned Monday by Magisterial District Judge Tonya M. Osman on 11 felony counts of possession of a firearm prohibited and one misdemeanor count of manufacturing a controlled substance.
Dunham Homers Again As Patriots Drop Series Finale To Reading
The Somerset Patriots fell to the Reading Fightin Phils 5-2 on Saturday night in their series finale at First Energy Stadium in Reading, PA. LHP Brock Selvidge (5 IP, 5 R, 9 H, 1 BB, 3 K) took the loss in his 16th start of the season. Selvidge ranks among Eastern League leaders with 83 K (T-8th), 7 W (T-3rd), and 84.2 IP (T-6th).

Ronald Speigle
Ronald Jay “Speedy” Speigle, 80, Jenners, died July 8, 2024 at home. Born June 17, 1944 in Johnstown. Son of Fred and Kathleen (Emerick) Speigle. Preceded in death by parents; son Ryan J. Speigle; brother in law John D. Berkey and Ron’s beloved Connie Fleegle. Survived by daughter Stacy L. Speigle; grandsons Bradley S. Speigle and fiancé Ashley Foster, Chase R. Snedden and Luke M. Speigle; sister D. Karen Berkey; best friend Earl Fleegle and many other family and friends. Speedy was in the JBJ class of 1963. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He loved times at the Speigle camp in Clearfield County, especially during bear season. He also loved riding motorcycles, especially his trip to Alaska with Earl on their Goldwings in 2006. Ron had a personality that wouldn’t quit. He was always making people laugh and loved going to the casino! He will be greatly missed and loved by many. Visitation will be from 4pm til time of service 5pm Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main St., Boswell with Rev. Michael A. Dunlap presiding. Bedford Borough has released the tentative construction schedule for replacement of cast iron pipe waterlines from July 9-11. One crew will be working on East Pitt Street between Wood and Bedford streets, with parking restricted on both sides of East Pitt to allow for one-lane traffic controlled by temporary lights. A second crew will be performing asphalt restoration on Penn between Richard and Anderson streets on July 9. In both areas, parking is restricted to allow for two-way traffic. On July 10 and July 11, the crew is scheduled for project restoration throughout the borough.

Wanda Lee Croyle, 59, of Everett, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024 at UPMC Altoona Hospital. She was born on March 12, 1965 in Baltimore, MD; a daughter of the late William Paul and Edellas (Sloan) Bowman. On May 2, 1992 in Everett, PA, she was united in marriage to Joseph W. Croyle.
