Thunderstorms and severe weather covered large swaths of the Midwest under a blanket of heavy rain Tuesday morning, leaving thousands of Hoosiers without electricity. As of 9 a.m., upwards of 5,500 AES customers and roughly 600 Duke Energy customers were without power in the Indianapolis area, concentrated mostly in the northeast side of the city. Meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Central Indiana say more storms are on the way.

INDIANAPOLIS — Storms brought heavy rainfall and caused power outages in central Indiana on Sunday afternoon. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for much of the area just before 1 p.m. The National Weather Service indicated thunderstorm watches were in effect for counties as far west as Montgomery County and as far east as Wayne County. The watches also stretched as far north as Allen County and as far south as Franklin County.
