FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — Teachers across the state received a lot of love on Saturday as Fairmont State University hosted students and educators for the annual Governor’s Honors Academy Outstanding Educator Luncheon.

Two students from each county were invited and then got the chance to nominate a teacher who made an impact on them at any time during their schooling, creating acknowledgment for K-12 teachers.

Co-dean of West Virginia Governor’s Honors Academy, Professor of history and director of honors at Fairmont State University Robin Payne discussed how important the event is.

“It just goes to show what a huge difference teachers do make,” Payne said. “The fact that years after a student may have been in the classroom, that teacher stands out to the student.”

Teachers got a written tribute from the student who nominated them, alongside a certificate of recognition.
