FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — A woman has been charged after allegedly not seeking assistance for a young child victim who told her she was sexually assaulted in Marion County.

On March 27, troopers with the Marion County detachment of the West Virginia State Police took part in a forensic interview of a 7-year-old victim who stated that she had been sexually assaulted on four separate occasions, according to a criminal complaint.

In that interview, the child said that the sexual assaults had been disclosed to Chelsea Nice, 34, of Fairmont, and that the incidents took place starting in 2023 and throughout 2024, troopers said.

The juvenile told troopers that “she was left at home with her assailant” despite the fact that Nice “had already been made aware of a prior assault, resulting in additional assaults,” according to the complaint.

In their investigation, troopers learned that Nice “did not notify authorities or take the victim to the hospital to receive medical evaluation or potential treatment,” and in an interview, Nice told troopers “she was aware of one allegation,” troopers said.

However, troopers learned that “the victim disclosed to [Nice] each time an assault occurred, totaling in four assaults,” but Nice “took no action to report to the proper authorities or assist in the victim seeking medical evaluations or treatment,” according to the complaint.

Nice has been charged with child neglect resulting in injury. She is being held in North Central Regional Jail on $200,012 bond.
