Mayor Bowser Declares Extended Heat Emergency in Washington, D.C. Amid Scorching Temperatures
With temperatures soaring to potentially dangerous levels, Mayor Muriel Bowser has activated an Extended Heat Emergency in Washington, D.C., which will be in effect from Friday, July 5 through Tuesday, July 9. The Mayor's office is urging the public to remain cautious during this period as the thermometer is expected to register 95 degrees Fahrenheit or beyond. According to the announcement, the combination of high temperatures and humidity can lead to heat-related illnesses, and all residents are encouraged to utilize available resources to remain safe.
LHS Students Recognized for Accomplishments

Agarwal will be attending the University of Indiana in the fall and will major in finance. Mansfield is a nursing major and will study at the University of Tampa. The nailbiter of a meet came down to the final relay as the Dolphins swam away victorious with a score of 228 to 223.

Tina Martin, right in photo, co-founder of Martin-Schaffer Advertising, has died. Her death, at 77, resulted from the side effects of treatments for metastatic breast cancer. Her obit states that she was born in Lancaster, PA, but left for Washington, D.C., in the late 1960s and found work writing radio commercials at the city’s largest agency. Her talent shone, and she received multiple awards for her writing and her uniquely memorable ad campaigns.

Former Alabama defensive back and recent Minnesota Viking draftee Khyree Jackson was killed in an early morning traffic accident in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Jackson was 24. Jackson and two former high school teammates were occupants (Jackson was a passenger) of a vehicle traveling north on Maryland Route 4 when it was struck by another vehicle attempting to change lanes while driving at a high rate of speed. The speeding vehicle struck the vehicle carrying Jackson, forcing it off the highway and into multiple trees. All occupants of Jackson’s vehicle were killed.
