BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Up next on the Countdown to Kickoff is the team who gets to play on the “Smurf Turf” the Warren East Raiders. The Raiders are entering its second year under head coach Tanner Hall looking to navigate a tough district with a young team. The Raiders had a deep senior class last season and now its time for those younger guys to get their chance on the field. This summer has been about getting the next man ready to step up and compete on Friday nights.
Lexington Police investigating early-morning shooting
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Police are investigating a shooting that occurred overnight in the 300 block of West Short Street. Police say they were dispatched to the scene for a disorder at around 1:57 a.m. and upon arrival, found a male victim with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital with what officials say are life-threatening injuries.

Over 4,000 Kentuckians to receive skills training
FRANKFORT, Ky. – This week, Gov. Andy Beshear highlighted that over 4,000 Kentuckians are expected to receive skills training thanks to support through the Bluegrass State Skills Corp. T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow is one of the recipients, with over 1,100 employees slated to receive workforce training support.
Pembroke Fire Department Receives Grants For New Equipment
The fire department announced Friday they were given two grants for equipment for fighting fires and a new truck. Pembroke Fire Department Chief Nick Belair says the first grant will give them 18 new air packs and rapid intervention team packs that will replace the 17-year-old air packs they have been currently using and ensure each apparatus is fully operational with air packs.

Soon. Next week, we will know the full SEC basketball schedule, per Jon Rothstein. That means we’ll also have the full 2024-25 Kentucky Basketball schedule. The schedule is the full release in its entirety, including dates and presumably times. Back in May, it was announced who the opponents that the Kentucky Wildcats would play would be: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt at home. The Cats will then travel to Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Vanderbilt.
