UPD welcomes new K-9 to explosives detection unit
Chuck, a yellow Labrador retriever born in February 2023 and handled by Officer Ethan Stepp, has joined the WVU Police Department as a specially-trained explosives detection K-9. Explosives detection K-9s serve our campus community and the surrounding Morgantown area by sniffing out venues for potentially suspicious items before large events.
2027 guard Smith talks West Virginia offer
Lincolnton (N.C.) 2027 guard LJ Smith is just beginning to jump into the recruiting process but already holds a number of high level scholarship offers including West Virginia. Smith, 6-foot-4, 150-pounds, found out about the news that the Mountaineers were jumping into the mix after his head coach spoke with associate head coach Chester Frazier. “I was really excited because it’s a pretty big offer and they’re in the Big 12 Conference,” he said. There are five veteran NFL players in the AFC who represent the old gold and blue. Worley is entering his ninth season in the NFL after being drafted in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. The cornerback has played for six different teams throughout his NFL career, including three different teams during the 2020 season. However, after the Baltimore Ravens signed Worley for the second time in 2022, he’s worn purple ever since. He’s only appeared in 21 games in two seasons playing exclusively with the club, starting in three. In that time, he’s made 20 total tackles, one tackle for loss, and three pass deflections.

West Virginia looking for best ways to get playmakers the ball

Olympian Feature: Kadeisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawrence
Gold medalists do not have to stop at one victory, former Mountaineers Kadeisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawrence will be looking to prove this summer. As third-time members of Team Canada’s women’s soccer team, Buchanan and Lawrence will be the first WVU alumni to compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Since being named to the Canada senior team, the pair has won two Olympic medals- a 2016 bronze medal in Rio and a 2021 gold medal in Tokyo- as well as the Four Nations Tournament in 2015 and Algarve Cup in 2016.
