FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — A Fall River K-9 police officer was arrested last week on domestic violence-related charges and improperly storing a firearm near children.

Marc Correia, who serves as the department’s K-9 officer, was arrested Friday and charged with misdemeanor assault and battery on a family member, along with improper storage of a firearm near a minor and intimidating a witness, which are both felonies.

Correia was arraigned in Fall River Court that same day and he’s since been suspended with pay, according to police.

Fall River Police Department would not release a police report detailing the allegations, saying it cannot be distributed because of the domestic violence charges. But The Fall River Herald News, which first reported the arrest, obtained a police report revealing more details about the allegations.

Correia is due back in court in September.
