Derek Gutierrez Makes History as 104th Open Champion at Plainfield Country Club
19-year-old Derek Gutierrez clinched a gutsy victory by three strokes at the 104th New Jersey Open Championship, becoming the first amateur winner since 2020. He is the youngest champion since 2014 and the 14th amateur to win this major championship, boosting his confidence for upcoming events and the fall season at Rutgers.
County Honors Parks Director Salvante
Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. dedicated a bronze bust of long-time Essex County Parks Director Daniel K. Salvante in the Cherry Blossom Welcome Center in Essex County Branch Brook Park in Newark on Wednesday, July 24. The surprise presentation was made in recognition of Salvante, a Verona native and 1972 graduate of Verona High School, being the parks director for 28 years, the longest tenure of anyone in Essex County history.

The New Jersey Horror Con and Film Festival is approaching quickly. They will return August 9-11, 2024, at the NJ Expo Center in Edison, New Jersey. The event is rapidly picking up steam from years past. The con has hosted many celebrities in past years, and they are pulling no punches again this time. With guests including Ken Foree and Bill Moseley, to name a few, and four different reunions in one weekend, it’s already setting out to be a great time. The New Jersey Horror Con happens several times yearly, including the Horror Sideshow Market, a one-day flea market with fantastic guests and plenty of vendors.

ROSELLE PARK, NJ — The Borough of Roselle Park has launched a new phone app, myRosellePark, that allows residents to report non-emergency issues, upload photos with geotagging and receive information about local events. The app will enable residents to report potholes, garbage, graffiti and code violations and provide them with real-time updates on the complaint status. App users can also opt-in to receive notifications on road closures and local emergencies.
