Faribault girls tennis put together some solid efforts Tuesday afternoon but couldn’t find the victory, falling 6-1 to Mankato East.

The Falcons only win of the day came as Whitney Huberty managed to win a close tiebreaker over August Beltz after two very different sets of play. Huberty would win the opening set 6-0 before losing a close second set 7-6 to Beltz in a tightly contested affair. With the meet already decided the final set was determined by a 10 point tiebreaker. Huberty would end up hanging on to win an equally close back-and-forth tiebreaker 11-9.

Elsewhere it was something new for the Falcons as Grace Brazil and Nell Gibbs teamed up for a doubles effort for the first time, falling short to Addie Wassman and Brynja Flitter in a tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets 4-6, 6-3.

“This match was the first time Grace and Nell played doubles together, and they did very well, especially against a team that came into today’s match with a 5-2 record this season,” Faribault coach Jeff Anderson said.

The Falcons are scheduled to travel to Rochester to play John Marshall on Thursday Aug. 29 with matches starting at 4:45 p.m.
