Faribault girls swim and dive put up a good fight against Owatonna Thursday before eventually falling by a team score of 95-78.

The Falcons, operating this season with a somewhat shorthanded roster, fielded a team of 21 swimmers and divers, while Owatonna traveled 43 athletes.

Nevertheless there were bright spots for the Falcons all evening, including captain Hallie Taghon continuing her strong year with a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.80 just ahead of a second-place finish of 27.45.

Claire Ray also continued a strong season so far with a first place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:08.05, a good 10 seconds ahead of the second place swimmer.

Taghon and Olivia Fisher went first and second in the 100 yard freestyle, Taghon winning the event by almost three seconds while Fisher came in second place over Christina Bell with a time of 1:02.48 to 1:02.79.

Faribault would also take home first in the 200 yard freestyle relay and a first and second place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay

The event also marked the latest iteration of a family affair, Faribault coach Charlie Fuller leading the way for the Falcons while his son, Isaiah headed up Owatonna.

“It’s always fun to compete against Owatonna and my son, Isaiah,” Fuller said. “We have made significant improvements in our swims, and our divers are working hard to get bigger lists. We want to keep things going, continue to work hard and improve our swims and dives.”

The Falcons will hit the pool again next Thursday, this time on the road at Rochester Century.
