A bicyclist was struck by a vehicle and sustained significant but non-life-threatening injuries Sunday evening at Western Avenue and Highway 60.

First responders were dispatched just after 7:30 p.m. after multiple 911 callers reported a bicyclist was unconscious, according to a news release from the Faribault police department.

Police officers found Daniel Ryan Torkelson, 52, of Northfield, conscious and breathing, but with significant injuries. The Faribault Fire Department and North Ambulance also responded and assisted with medical care.

Torkelson was transported to the Faribault airport and then airlifted to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Once stabilized at the hospital, Torkelson’s injuries were described as non-life threatening.

Torkelson was struck by a GMC pickup traveling westbound on Highway 60 driven by Sean Ray Schulz, 37, of Warsaw. Schulz and multiple witnesses reported he had the green light. No citations were issued based on statements obtained and evidence at the scene, according to the news release.
