What's going to be the toughest position battle at WVU?
What's the most important position battle for West Virginia Football heading into 2024? There will be plenty of them. Available playing time is there at defensive line and linebacker, while the entire cornerback room could be up for grabs with new transfers. The same could be said for wide receiver, where returning contributors will battle new arrivals for catches. But, maybe, the answer is something different. PARKERSBURG — Leadership of Highmark’s Corporate Communications team gathered in Parkersburg last week for their corporate communications quarterly meeting. Cathy McAlister, executive director of the Highmark WV Charitable Fund for Health, said Highmark WV was thrilled to host the meeting at the Blennerhassett Hotel and Spa. McAlister said team members from Pennsylvania and New York were excited to dine downtown, see Highmark WV’s corporate headquarters, visit Discovery World on Market and the Blennerhassett Island mansion and museum. Lewis-Gilmer 911 provides construction update on new facility
WESTON, W.Va (WDTV) - Lewis-Gilmer 911 released an update surrounding the construction of the new 911 center more than a year after the project originally broke ground. County officials held a groundbreaking for the new William F. “Bill” Rowan Emergency Operations Center on April 11th of last year, which has since been partially built at the old Ballard’s car lot on Route 19 North in Weston. The operations center is named after the late Office of Emergency Management and Lewis-Gilmer 911 Director Bill Rowan.

The Mountaineer Mantrip is WVU Football’s entrance to Milan Puskar Stadium every home game day. Two hours and 20 minutes before kickoff, the football team walks from the corner of WVU Medical Center Drive and Don Nehlen Drive, where the team buses drop the players off at the entrance of the stadium.

Parkersburg City Council to consider land purchase for new fire station
PARKERSBURG — Members of Parkersburg City Council are set to vote Tuesday on the purchase of property for a replacement fire station. An ordinance on first reading at the meeting scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday authorizes the $50,000 purchase of a lot in the 700 block of Briant Street owned by Seventh Street United Methodist Church. Mayor Tom Joyce said Friday that’s where Fire Chief Jason Matthews determined the city’s replacement for fire station 3 should be built.

Close Knit: Mountain State Art and Craft Fair under way in Ripley
RIPLEY A large crowd was scattered across the grounds of the Cedar Lakes Conference Center Friday afternoon to learn about and appreciate Appalachian culture. The 2024 Mountain State Art and Craft Fair started Thursday and was still going strong on Friday. There are still two days of the fair left, Saturday and Sunday, and it will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $7 for the general public and $5 for seniors over 55 and children ages 3-11.
