What's going to be the toughest position battle at WVU?
What's the most important position battle for West Virginia Football heading into 2024? There will be plenty of them. Available playing time is there at defensive line and linebacker, while the entire cornerback room could be up for grabs with new transfers. The same could be said for wide receiver, where returning contributors will battle new arrivals for catches. But, maybe, the answer is something different. Community honors beloved counselor with Tom Smarrella Memorial Golf Tournament
For more than 30 years, Tom Smarrella served as a youth guidance counselor at Brooke High School, where he was also the head golf coach for 20 years. After passing away in 2023 from Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, family and friends gathered at the Mountaineer Woodview Golf Course for the first Tom Smarrella Memorial Golf Tournament, also known as the Simbo Scramble.

PARKERSBURG — The West Virginia University at Parkersburg president received a positive evaluation from the school’s Board of Governors. Close Knit: Mountain State Art and Craft Fair under way in Ripley
RIPLEY A large crowd was scattered across the grounds of the Cedar Lakes Conference Center Friday afternoon to learn about and appreciate Appalachian culture. The 2024 Mountain State Art and Craft Fair started Thursday and was still going strong on Friday. There are still two days of the fair left, Saturday and Sunday, and it will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $7 for the general public and $5 for seniors over 55 and children ages 3-11.

Parkersburg City Council to consider land purchase for new fire station
PARKERSBURG — Members of Parkersburg City Council are set to vote Tuesday on the purchase of property for a replacement fire station. An ordinance on first reading at the meeting scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday authorizes the $50,000 purchase of a lot in the 700 block of Briant Street owned by Seventh Street United Methodist Church. Mayor Tom Joyce said Friday that’s where Fire Chief Jason Matthews determined the city’s replacement for fire station 3 should be built.
