Four arrested near Farmville

Three adults and a juvenile were arrested on a handful of charges after their vehicle was stopped on N.C. 121 near Farmville, the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office reported.

A news release from the agency said that detectives were performing proactive enforcement at 6:20 p.m. on Jan. 24 when they stopped a vehicle they observed with equipment violations near Seven Pines Road northeast of the town limits. The release said that vehicle did not immediately stop but did after travelling about a mile.

Detectives identified the occupants of the vehicle as Rodney Rayquan Artis, 24, of Greenville, Kashmeire Keonta Hathaway, 19, of Winterville, Tyquan Krystale Spain, 20, of 635 Barrus Construction Road, Greenville, and an unnamed 16-year-old. Artis was driving the car.

The release said a probable cause search of the vehicle was initiated where detectives located a concealed gun and narcotics. Artis was arrested and charged with driving while license revoked and flee to elude arrest. He has since been released from the Pitt County Detention Center after posting a $5,000 secured bond.

Spain was found to have three outstanding warrants for felony probation violation and remains in custody under a $200,000 secured bond. In November of 2022 he was one of three men charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery with a dangerous weapon after the theft of a cell phone near the intersection of Arlington Boulevard and Hooker Road in Greenville.

The juvenile was found in possession of cocaine and the firearm. Secure custody orders were sought for felony carrying concealed gun and possession of cocaine. He has been booked into the Pitt Regional Juvenile Detention Center. His name was not released.

Hathaway was cited for possession of marijuana and released at the scene.
