FARMVILLE — Sounds inspired by Motown will find their way downtown next month as Farmville Community Arts Council presents “Dreamgirls.”

With music by Henry Krieger and lyrics and book by Tom Eyen, “Dreamgirls,” which opened on Broadway in 1981, follows the journey of the Dreamettes, an all-girl singing trio fashioned after such groups as The Supremes and The Shirelles. In 2006, the Tony Award-winning musical was released as a film starring Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx.

Next week, the show will be performed at a venue that has been home to both stage and screen, Farmville’s Paramount Theatre. With a cast of 22, along with an 11-piece band, “Dreamgirls” features Kimberly N. Jones, owner and artistic director of Greenville’s Katura Dance Academy, in her directorial debut. Jessica Fisher is vocal director, and Kevin Lee is producer. The performance is partially funded by the NC Arts Council’s Grassroots Grant.

Performances are scheduled for at 7 p.m. April 4-7 and April 11-13 at 3723 N. Main St. Additional matinee performances are scheduled for 3 p.m. April 7 and April 14. Tickets are $20-$25 with a discount for FCAC members. Visit https://www.showtix4u.com/events/23142.
