Man arrested in Fayette County for possession of an open container

MONTGOMERY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — At around 12:30 AM on July 29, 2024, Patrolman N.D. Hall was on a routine patrol near 4th Avenue and Ferry Street in Montgomery , Fayette County , West Virginia.

He noticed two males on the sidewalk engaged in what appeared to be a transaction. One male handed something to the other, placing it in his right hand. Hall approached the individual who seemed to have received the item and observed that he was holding a Modelo beer can in his left hand.

Hall asked him to show me what was in his right hand and to provide his name. The individual became uncooperative, refusing to give his name, and Hall detected an odor of alcohol on his breath while speaking with him.

Hall repeated his request for him to reveal the contents of his right hand, but he again refused and declined to provide his name. At that point, Hall placed him under arrest for obstruction, public intoxication, and possession of an open container.

Based on experience, Hall suspected that the two males might have engaged in a “hand-to-hand” transaction, which is often associated with the sale and distribution of controlled substances.

Additionally, there was a safety concern due to the individual concealing an unknown object in his closed right hand. The individual was later identified as Trevor J. Jones. Mr. Jones was arrested and taken to the Montgomery Police Department for processing before being transported to Southern Regional Jail to await arraignment. Patrolman B.J. Parsons also witnessed this incident.
