FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — With Independence Day on Thursday, fireworks will be popping off in the night sky, and experts want you to keep your pets in mind during the holiday.

Philip Curry is a local resident who lives in Fayetteville, and he is taking in dogs to prepare for the loud pops and bursts from firecrackers that can scare animals.

However, if you do still have some Fourth of July fun, Curry suggests having a plan for your four-legged friends first.

Loud noises aren’t the only thing to pay attention to, though. Fayetteville Animal Services said it typically gets a huge influx of dogs after the Fourth of July.

“A lot of the dogs that we get in aren’t microchipped, or they’re not registered. And then, they just sit here, and they don’t go home,” said Meredith Warren, shelter attendant at Fayetteville Animal Services.

Fayetteville Animal Services has some tips for the upcoming holiday.

“Make sure that they’re comfortable, and that their area is set up to where when you’re gone, you know that they’re inside safe. Curtains drawn, TV or music going to just kind of drown out some of that noise” Warren said.

Fayetteville Animal Services is giving out free nametags for your furry friends along with the option to get microchipping.
