FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Twenty-five athletes with ties to Arkansas will represent six different teams at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Ever since James Rector of Hot Springs won silver in the 100m in 1908, almost 80 University of Arkansas athletes from various sports and nations have competed in the Olympics.
Other athletes connected to Arkansas , such as Hamburg-native and basketball gold-medalist Scottie Pippen, Kimberly Derrick from Blytheville (the sole Arkansan to compete in the Winter Olympics), and Arkansas State hurdler Thomas Hill , have also added to the numbers over the years.
Among this year’s competitors are 23 athletes either affiliated with the University of Arkansas or who are professionals training in Fayetteville
