Quinn Ewers is excited for Texas to rekindle the rivalry with Arkansas this coming season. Now that Texas is in the SEC, the old school matchup is back to a regularly scheduled date.

Texas played Arkansas back in 2021 in Fayetteville, won 40-21 by the Razorbacks. Ewers wasn’t with the Longhorns at that point, but he’s ready to get that one back.

One of the oldest rivalries in the sport, Texas-Arkansas is quite appealing to Ewers.

“It’s going to be cool to rekindle that rich, traditional rivalry for sure,” Ewers said at SEC Media Days. “I’m excited to go to Arkansas and play against them. Like you said, it dates back to 1800 something? That’s crazy. It’s going to be good for both universities to finally get back to that. The 50s and 60s, they were going back and forth so that’s going to be cool to get to play against them.”

Needless to say, expectations are higher for Texas entering 2024. The Longhorns reached the College Football Playoff last season and return plenty of talent on both sides of the ball, including Ewers.

Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman is well aware that beating Texas this coming season will be more difficult, but he is thankful that the game will once again be played at home.

“The difference is, is Texas is certainly a different team than what we played. That was his first year there and now obviously he’s a great coach, great guy. And Got a wonderful football team,” Pittman said. “But I’m glad we’re going to play them at home again. I don’t know if that’s fair, because they came there two years ago. But it’s an early morning game.”

Pittman isn’t sure that he is the most qualified person to respond to Texas coach Steve Sarkisian , but he also can’t argue with what the  head coach had to say.

Sarkisian previously said Texas gets more hate from Arkansas than anyone else. Basically, Razorback fans do that more than love themselves.

“He’s probably correct,” Pittman said. “You’d have to ask the old hats of Arkansas, but he’s probably right.”

Fans will have to wait a bit for Texas-Arkansas this season. The two teams matchup November 16th with the Razorbacks playing host.
