University of North Carolina legend part of HBCU fundraiser

Fayetteville State University Athletics partnership with the Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity supported the ‘Homecourt: A Conversation with Coach Roy Williams’ fundraiser , featuring the former Kansas and University of North Carolina head coach in the Felton J . Capel Arena.

The luncheon provided a VIP opportunity to meet and greet the NCAA Hall of Fame coach, who retired in 2021. Coach Williams, with 48 years of coaching experience, spent 18 seasons as the head coach at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and 15 seasons at the University of Kansas. He also coached at Charles D. Owen High School.

Williams amassed a total of 903 wins, ranking third all-time in Division I history at the time of his retirement. His teams made nine Final Four appearances and won three NCAA championships in 2005, 2009, and 2017, all with North Carolina. Williams was known for his fast-paced, high-scoring teams and exceptional recruiting skills. He earned numerous accolades, including induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007.

The proceeds from the luncheon, which included a silent auction, are dedicated to supporting Habitat for Humanity’s mission of providing more affordable housing in the local community.

Director of Athletics Anthony Bennett expressed, “It was a great opportunity for the Broncos to team up with Brandon Price and the Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity once again to make a difference in our community.
