A checkpoint to search for impaired drivers will be set up Wednesday night into Thursday morning on Hope Mills Road.

The Fayetteville Police Department said the checkpoint will be in the 2400 block of Hope Mills Road from 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday to 3 a.m. Thursday.

The release said the goal of the checkpoint is to "educate the public about the dangers of impaired driving and decrease the presence of impaired drivers on our roads."

The checkpoint is in partnership with Gov. Roy Cooper's Highway Safety Program, police said. The program aims to reduce traffic fatalities across the state, according to the Department of Transportation.

The State Highway Patrol and other agencies are taking part in the checkpoint, the release said.
