Gwinn VFW Post 5670 to host VFW 125th Anniversary Street Dance
GWINN, Mich. (WLUC) - Congress created the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in 1899. To celebrate the organization’s quasquicentennial, Gwinn VFW Post 5670 is hosting a Street Dance. The VFW will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, pop, and beer at Nordeen Park in Gwinn. The band Neo Lives will perform live music.

There is perhaps no better wildflower trail in western Oregon at this time of year than the Cone Peak/Iron Mountain loop, which of course makes it very popular. It's about 7.5 miles if you do the whole thing, but some of the best flowers are within a 5 mile up and back jaunt on the Cone Peak (eastern, lower) end. Massive old growth trees on the way up, spectacular sweeping meadows packed with abundant and diverse flowers, and some excellent views complete this package of delights. Go as soon as you can though, as with the onset of hot weather the blooms will fade very soon!

CRYSTAL FALLS - Join us for an Independence Day Concert with the Foucault Brothers Wednesday, July 3 at 6 p.m. at the Crystal Falls Library. This acoustic oriented brother duo has a knack of taking a song and putting their own homespun spell on the music. They present a nice organic blend with tasteful interpretations of old time and contemporary songs. Roy plays lead guitar and adds a sweet vibe on his solo work. The older brother Paul, usually takes lead on vocals as well as playing guitar.

MANSFIELD TWP. — James “Jim” Paramski, 81, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at his home with his family at his side. Visitation took place June 19 at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. A Catholic Mass followed at the Guardian Angels Church in Crystal Falls. Father Daniel Dapaah officiated. The East side Veterans accorded burial rites. Condolences to the family of James W. Wisconsin Mother in Jail after She Abused 2-year-old Son and Livestreamed Abuse on Social Media; Other Woman Also in Jail for Alleged Abuse
A 24-year-old woman in Wisconsin has been sentenced for livestreaming footage of herself physically abusing her 2-year-old son, pulling the child’s hair forcefully as he cried for help. Marinette County Circuit Court Judge Jane M. Sequin has issued a ruling, sentencing Natasha L. Hunt to 1 year in jail and three years of probation.
IM awards contract for water lines replacement
IRON MOUNTAIN — About 375 lead service lines will be replaced at Iron Mountain homes over the next two years under a contract awarded Monday by the city council. Ultra Construction Services of Marquette was the low bidder on the $4.57 million water project, but its price will be reduced by $520,000 to match available funding. Project supervisor Coleman Engineering Co. of Iron Mountain had estimated $3.97 million for construction and contingencies, while USC’s bid was $4.23 million.
Holiday events continue over the weekend
Independence Day festivities are continuing into the weekend. Here are some of the events planned in local communities. On Friday, a “Patriotic Polka Party in the Park” comes to Esky for the first time. A polka band from Wisconsin, The Mix, will set the scene for music and dancing at 6 p.m. around the Karas Bandshell in Ludington Park. Food and refreshments will also be available.
