Housing Bureau Expects to Exceed Unit Goals With 2016′s Bond Cash
Housing is usually a gloomy subject in Portland. Here’s some good news. Using a $258.4 million bond passed by voters in 2016, the Portland Housing Bureau says it’s on track to complete 1,859 units in 15 projects, beating its goal of 1,300, according to a report for 2023 presented to the City Council this week by Commissioner Carmen Rubio.

There is a heat advisory today in these areas, with temperatures expected to reach well into the upper 90s and triple digits throughout the gorge. A Fire Weather Watch will begin overnight and last through Sunday.
Portland Woman Fatally Struck by Ambulance on I-84 Near Hood River While Tending to Flat Tire
Tragedy struck the otherwise quiet roads of I-84 in the early hours of Thursday when a woman fatally collided with an ambulance while tending to her flat tire. According to KOIN, Oregon State Police reported that the incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. near milepost 54 in Hood River County. The victim was identified as Geraldean Edna Martin, 55, of Portland. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

This comes as hazy conditions from Oregon wildfires move smoke into the Portland, Vancouver metro area. Air quality will likely decrease later in the day on Saturday and continue into Sunday.

Motorcyclist killed in Gresham collision
A Gresham motorcyclist was killed in a crash Saturday morning, July 20. At 10 a.m. Gresham Police officers and medical personnel responded to a collision involving a motorcycle and pickup truck at the intersection of Southeast 190th Drive and Southeast Cheldelin Road. The motorcyclist was killed in the collision. The driver of the pickup stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. The East Metro Vehicular Crimes Team is leading the investigation. Police say the motorcycle may have been traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the fatal crash. Anyone who witnessed the collision and has not already spoken with an officer is asked to call the Gresham Police tip-line at 503-618-2719.
