First-year AAC commissioner Tim Pernetti takes the stage at conference media days
The American Athletic Conference kicked off its annual media days at the Loews Arlington Hotel in Arlington, TX. Ever since the AAC rebranded from the Big East in 2013, the conference operated under the direction of one commissioner, Mike Aresco. But Aresco announced his retirement in December and his reign over the conference officially ended May 31. His successor Tim Pernetti was named in early April, coming from a background in athletic administration. He previously served as the Rutgers athletic director from 2009-13 when the program was a member of the Big East, coinciding with Aresco’s tenure as commissioner. Thus, there was familiarity between the two prior to the recent change in AAC leadership.

Review: “Sally Warren: The Press of My Hands” at Liliana Bloch Gallery, Dallas
Two years ago, a journalist writing for The Washington Post offered some tips for staying up to date with the terrible news of the world while avoiding burnout. The current state of domestic and world affairs suggests that any sane person would disregard that advice at their peril. The guidance offered is deceptively simple, if not verging on the simplistic: “Give yourself a break,” “ask for help when needed,” “take time for self-care,” “talk to your children,” “turn on screen limits,” and “view your phone in black and white.” It’s undoubtedly good advice, solidly grounded in common sense. If a particular habit makes your life miserable, you should try to break it.
