The National Weather Service has issued a Beach Hazards Statement and Small Craft Advisories for the Lake Michigan Beaches. These will be in effect this afternoon and tonight. Winds should turn to the north or northwest and increase to 10-20 mph with gusts to 30 mph possible.

These winds may create rip currents, structural currents and a flow of water from north to south that could carry swimmers into deeper water. With a north wind, structural currents will be most pronounced on the north sides of the piers and breakwaters, including the beaches at Holland State Park and Ferrysburg.
