    Nursing home resident attacked, strangled with wire hanger: Deputies

    JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – A former resident of a Festus, Missouri, nursing home remains hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation after attempting to strangle a fellow resident last December.

    According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office’s probable cause statement, the crime took place on December 27 at Superior Manor Nursing Home along State Road TT.

    Investigators said Marla D. Williams (age not provided) tried strangling another resident by wrapping a wire hanger around the victim’s face and neck. A staffer at the nursing home witnessed the attack.

    Williams allegedly admitted to the attack but denied it several minutes later. Investigators said she appeared to be in an altered state.

    The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Williams with second-degree assault. An arrest warrant has been issued, along with a $10,000 bond.

    No future court date has been scheduled.
