Mod Pizza has lost some of its popularity, which could mean your local store is going to shut down — if it hasn’t already.

Several locations were already closed as the company faced daunting financial issues and considered bankruptcy before being bailed out by another restaurant company.

Check out this list of some of the local closures to see if your Mod Pizza was shut down, losing yet another option you may have used to stretch your restaurant budget .

    1. Clovis, California

Mod Pizza shut down five locations in California, including its store in Clovis, leaving 15 employees without a job.

The company gave little warning about shutting down the location, with employees finding out only two days before it shut down.

    2. Newbury Park, California

Another store that was shuttered in California was in the city of Newbury Park in Southern California.

The restaurant had been in that location for nine years and was planning to celebrate its 10th anniversary in October.

    3. Atlanta, Georgia

The Atlanta metro area saw three locations shut down so far over the past few months.

Mod Pizza recently closed a location in East Cobb after shutdowns in Buford and Chamblee in March.

“This location is permanently closed,” said a sign on the door of the Chamblee location. “We are incredibly grateful for your patronage and support over the years.”

    4. New Lenox, Illinois

Illinois residents recently said goodbye to the Mod Pizza on 651 E. Lincoln Highway in New Lenox.

The New Lenox location opened in 2019 and closed in August as part of the company’s struggles.

    5. New Jersey

New Jersey saw two locations close on the same day in Cherry Hill and Marlton.

Both locations were shut down in March as part of an early round of store closures due to the company’s financial distress.

    6. Lebanon, Pennsylvania

The Mod Pizza location at 1501 Quentin Road officially closed its doors for good in June.

Customers have been going to the location since it opened in 2020 and fortunately still have other options in nearby towns for Mod Pizza.

    7. Flower Mound, Texas

The Flower Mound location in Texas was open for around 18 months before employees found out that the location was going to be shuttered permanently.

A manager for the location blamed the shutdown on “not enough business.”

    8. Seattle, Washington

Mod Pizza, which is headquartered in nearby Bellevue, closed down a Seattle location at 4755 Fauntleroy Way SW in West Seattle.

The store originally opened its doors to customers in 2018.

    9. Fitchburg, Wisconsin

Employees at the Mod Pizza in Fitchburg found out they were let go in March as part of a wave of shutdowns.

There were 15 workers affected by the closure at 2960 Cahill Main, with the closure handled by the company’s corporate office.

Mod Pizza made big cuts throughout the year

The company said it closed 27 locations in the first quarter of 2024 including several in California as well as Wisconsin, New Jersey, and other states that shut down in March.

More locations were shuttered in the second quarter, bringing the total to 44 stores locking their doors for good this year, although a full list is not yet available to the public.

Mod Pizza acquired by Elite Restaurants

Instead of having to file for bankruptcy, the company was acquired by Elite Restaurant Group in July, so whether more locations will close their doors has yet to be seen.

    Bottom line

The loss of your local Mod Pizza could help you adjust your budget if you tend to spend money dining out.

Consider looking at smart ways to save money instead and build up your savings or pay off debt with money you aren’t spending when you dine out.

Money tips that can work for everyone

No matter what your bank account balance is, there's always an opportunity to optimize and improve your finances. Here's a quick checklist of things you can look at today.

Focus on paying off your debt . Debt can hold you back from making progress with your overall financial well-being. Aside from cutting expenses, there are tools that can help you pay off debt faster like balance transfer credit cards and debt counseling.

Earning extra income can give you breathing room. If finances are tight, earning some extra money to supplement your income can make a huge difference. A new job is one option to consider, but if you're not ready to make a big change or already retired, a part-time side job could be a better choice.

Cut your expenses. It sounds painful and so not fun, but it doesn't have to be. Take a look at your biggest expenses because that's where you'll probably find the biggest savings. For example, auto insurance rates have been soaring so shopping around for a new insurance company can be the fastest way to cut your bill. Also, look for ways to cut your grocery bill (despite rising inflation).
