Number of football officials in East Tennessee continuing to decline, association says
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Friday night football is right around the corner. Officials from all sports are facing shortages, but the numbers are not getting any better. “If there are not officials out there, the kids are not playing,” said Philip Freels, the assigning officer for the Knoxville Football Officials Association.

Former Alcoa football star and NFL receiver Randall Cobb is entering a new career path, as he is set to join SEC Network as a college football studio analyst. Cobb, who is from Maryville, won four state titles and a Mr. Football award in 2007. He went on to Kentucky where he earned first-team All-America honors and combined for 2,974 yards rushing and receiving and 35 touchdowns in three seasons.

A Flag Pond woman and her adult son have been charged with stealing more than $80,000 worth of precious metal from a couple that she was hired to help as a caretaker.
