Earthquake Shakes Illinois: Shocking Footage Inside (Video)
A 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck Northern Illinois early this morning. The earthquake occurred a little before 3 a.m. in Southern DeKalb County, near the town of Somonauk. The earthquake was felt in various locations including Winthrop Harbor, Cary, and Yorkville. Heather and Cory were awakened by the quake, initially mistaking it for a storm. Marcia in Winthrop Harbor reported feeling her house shake. A resident in Cary noticed the loud and rumbly noise, distinguishing it from thunder. Dan in Yorkville also felt the earthquake.

Parts of northern Illinois shook Monday as a 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck in the early morning hours. The earthquake was centered northwest of the DeKalb County village of Somonauk. According to the United States Geological Survey, the trembler had an estimated depth of about 6 miles. The earthquake could be felt as far as Joliet.
Earthquake Rattles Far Western Suburbs Early This Morning
In the early hours of Monday morning, at approximately 2:53 a.m., a minor earthquake struck about 2 kilometers northwest of Somonauk, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). While there were no reports of damage, the tremor was felt in parts of the western Chicago suburbs, including Yorkville and Oswego.
Byron unveils new mural called ‘Remain in Light’
The mural, called “Remain in Light,” is painted on the front of the city hall building at 232 W. Second Street. The artist of the mural, Brett Whitacre, says, “I just love the feel that it gives when you stand in front of it or drive by. Leeward Renewable Energy Brings Clean Energy Jobs To Illinois
Leeward Renewable Energy’s GSG Wind Project built 26 new turbines and recycled 100% of decommissioned wind turbines, adding numerous clean energy jobs in Illinois. The GSG Wind project, which stretches across 3,000 acres near West Brooklyn, Illinois, became commercially operational in 2007. Illinois Representative Darin LaHood recently visited the site to meet with local farmers and discuss the economic benefits of clean wind power.
Paw Paw to install solar speed sign on Chicago Road
PAW PAW – The Paw Paw Village Board met in regular session on July 10. Concerned citizens brought up the issue of cars speeding as they come into town from the east on Chicago Road. The Village plans on installing a solar powered radar speed sign that will display the speed of the oncoming cars. Opinions were also voiced of the fact that many drivers are not coming to a complete stop at the village stop signs.
