Volleyball Team Camp with IUK
Looking up at the banners in Case Arena, one should notice that there are an awful lot of volleyball championships listed between 1995 and 2011: 22 to be exact. It is no coincidence that Coach Heather (Boots) Hayes had a hand in all but four of those championships. As a player, Coach Hayes was a part of the first sectional championship in school history. That 95’ team went 32-0 before being beat by Lafayette Jeff in the regional. After a successful college career at Montevallo University and the University of Indianapolis, Coach Hayes returned to Frankfort as the head varsity coach at the young age of 22. In her first year, she led her team to the state finals and followed that with four more sectional titles and nine conference championships. She led the Hot Dogs from 2001-2011 before heading to Kokomo as the first head coach of IUK’s new volleyball program. Her teams have made nine consecutive appearances in the NAIA national tournament and made two Sweet 16 appearances. They have also won nine straight conference championships. She has been named River States Conference coach of the year at least five times. Coach Hayes became the Athletic Director at IUK in March of 2024 and will continue in that role and as the head volleyball coach during the 2024-2025 term.
