Lafayette man charged with murder in Briarwood Apartments slaying
LAFAYETTE, Ind. ― Kwame Riddle became the first person in 2024 charged with murder in Tippecanoe County. Riddle fatally stabbed Terry Taylor early July 11 in the 1600 block of Briarwood Court, leaving him bleeding to death in the middle of the road, according to prosecutors who filed charges Wednesday. Riddle, who has been jailed since that day, will remain incarcerated without bond until his trial, which is scheduled for Nov. 12. ...

The FBI searched the Indianapolis home of a former congressional candidate with Evansville ties on Wednesday, though it's unclear why. The agency confirmed to IndyStar that it executed a search warrant at a house where public records show Gabe Whitley lives — news first reported by IndyPolitics. There is no indication anyone was arrested, the IndyStar reported.

Marcus & Millichap closed the sale of MedMark Medical Center, a 12,750-square-foot medical office located in Lafayette, Indiana. The property sold for $2.6 million with a 6.6 percent cap rate. Three and a half years remain on the NN lease term with one additional five-year optional renewal. “The passive nature of the investment as well as the irreplaceable location with frontage along I-65 appealed to multiple buyers,” said Julia Evinger, first vice president investments. “The successful buyer purchased the property as a covered land play for today’s income and land value for potential redevelopment in the future.”

Carmel sues property owner for operating short-term rental illegally
The City of Carmel filed a lawsuit July 11 against the owner of a home on Singletree Court that city officials claim is being illegally operated as a short-term rental. Four days earlier, multiple renters were carried out of the home on stretchers in what appeared to be a “mass drug overdose,” according to Christin Diehl, who lives next door. Alabama Man Sentenced to 57 Months for Arson in Indiana, Family Home and Pets Lost in Deliberate Blaze
An Alabama man has been sentenced to nearly five years in federal prison after pleading guilty to arson for setting his father's house on fire in Connersville, Indiana, resulting in the death of the family's dog and cat. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Indiana reported that 34-year-old Tommy Lee Harrison Sr. carried out the attack after traveling from his home in Birmingham, Alabama.
