BUXTON, N.C. (WNCN) — The 72-year-old man who died Saturday while kayaking near the Cape Point Campground area has been identified.

His name was Ross Burris Fulcher, said Mike Barber, public affairs director of Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Fulcher launched from vehicle boat launch Ramp 43 near the beach, but the kayak capsized while trying to ride a wave 50 yards from shore, said Barber.

Despite witnesses bringing Fulcher back to the beach and attempts to resuscitate, he died on the shore.

Since his death was watercraft-related, the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission will investigate further into the incident.
