Latta approved as Wayland’s engineering consultant
During the City of Wayland’s regular meeting on July 11, Cliff Latta assumed the role of the city’s engineering consultant. “This is a new position that we don’t currently have filled,” said mayor Jerry Fultz. “We need to establish this for a couple of grants, as well as other information and expertise that we don’t have.”

Blackcats to kickoff season at Leslie County
PRESTONSBURG — Prestonsburg will kick off the 2024 high school football season at Leslie County on Friday, Aug. 23. First-year head coach Wesley Hager is preparing to guide Prestonsburg in the 2024 high school football season. Hager was introduced as the Blackcats' new head coach in late-February. He replaced Brandon Brewer, who resigned following the 2023 high school football season. Brewer has moved on to Bath County where he is preparing to guide the Wildcats in the 2024 high school football season.

Event plans are underway for this year’s Bluegrass Mountain Cup Sugarcamp XC and Enduro mountain bike race that will be held Oct. 4 through Oct.zxcc 6. Man given 15 years in Pike man's death
A former Pike County man was sentenced to serve a total of 15 years for charges in connection with a 2020 death of a Pike County man in a Floyd County motel. Enos Little, 50, was sentenced to a total of 15 years. He received 10 years for second degree assault and five years for conspiracy to kidnap. Little is also serving five years in an unrelated case in Pike county, which must be completed before he begins serving the Floyd County sentence.

Man arrested on meth trafficking charge
A man was arrested on a charge of trafficking in methamphetamine during a Floyd County Sheriff's deputy's patrol. According to an arrest citation written by Deputy Allen May, on July 5, he was patrolling an area at Dodson Branch, Prestonsburg, about which the department had received several complaints regarding potential drug trafficking.
FCSO: Martin man broke into Family Dollar store
A Martin man was arrested recently after police investigating an overnight break-in at the Family Dollar store at Betsy Layne found him in the business. According to the citation in the case, written by Deputy Brian Walker, on July 6, he was dispatched to the business in reference to a call from a store employee, who had arrived at the business and found that the front door window had been broken out.
