Rome Man Sentenced To 40 Years On Child Molestation Charges

A Cartersville man who molested a 9 year old girl on two occasions was sentenced to 40 years, to serve 12 years in prison.

Floyd County Superior Court Judge Bryan Johnson sentenced 22-year-old Charles Anthony Odell Wilson on Tuesday after he was convicted on two counts of child molestation during a bench trial on July 9.

"Due to the strength and courage of this young victim we were able to see justice in this case," Floyd County Assistant District Attorney Mike Viscuse said after the sentencing.

Wilson was arrested by Floyd County Police Department investigators after the girl notified her parents that he had exposed himself while staying at their home on two occasions.

The first incident took place in December 2022, right around Christmas time. In that incident he woke her up by placing his penis next to her head. That time the victim didn't say anything to her parents.

But a few months later in March 2023, Wilson removed the girl's panties and exposed his penis to the young girl. This time she told her parents and Wilson was arrested.

Floyd County District Attorney Leigh Patterson said that Wilson will serve 90% of his prison sentence before being considered for release.

'One of the biggest responsibilities in the district attorney's office is to protect the children of this community," Patterson said. "We appreciate everyone who helped us in this case."
