According to a news release from the City of Foley, the project aims to remove debris that is slowing drainage. Some of that debris, according to officials, is left over from when Hurricane Sally hit the area in 2020.

The City of Foley will be working to clear the stream moving south from the bridge near Pine Rest Cemetery and Baldwin County will help to clear out debris outside of city limits, the release explained.

“It’s helping us out,” Foley Mayor Ralph Hellmich said. “We’re working jointly with them to clean that out.”

Once the material is cleared, the release noted the basin can be designed as a managed stream by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, meaning that if the waterway is clogged by storm debris in the future, they can receive federal funding to remove it.
