Baldwin County pageant for special needs girls happening in Foley

FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — A group of special needs girls will have a special night just for them. It’s happening in Foley this weekend to help champion young girls who don’t always get the spotlight.

Between the fancy dresses, salon time, and make-up pageants can be expensive. For this pageant, a lot of the services are donated.

Nikki Walker is putting together the first “Coastal Camellia Princess Pageant – Celebrating Beauties with Special Needs.” The dress rental, hair services and make-up are donated. Compared to the normal amount parents usually dole out for pageants, there’s a relatively small small place holding fee of $35.

Walker says the regular pageant work she does is supplementing the cost of the special needs pageant and volunteers are pitching in to make each girl feel like a queen for an evening.

“It’s the pageantry of it. It’s the fun. It’s the fellowship. A Lots of girls make new friends and it’s really building these girls up and building their self-confidence and showing them what they’re capable of. It’s basically the same thing as sports, except for they get to wear prettier clothes and prettier shoes,” said Owner of the Coastal Camellia Pageant Company Nikki Walker. “Every girl is beautiful no matter your shape, your size, what challenges are thrown at you in life That you have something special to share And we should all support each other as women and as girls.”

The special needs pageant will start at 5:30 Saturday evening at the Foley Civic Center.
It’s a non-competitive event where every girl walks away with a crown and goodies. Miss Alabama 2023 will also be there.
