Pasta on the Move: This Rogers Park Restaurant Serves It Up in Cones

(CHICAGO) Chicago has no lack of Italian restaurants, but Anto Pizza in Rogers Park has a unique way of serving pasta. Pasta is not usually a food you can eat on the go, but Anto Pizza serves it up inside paper cones, transforming messy pasta into a spill-proof and convenient meal to walk around with.

According to the Loyola Phoenix, chef, and owner Tony Barbanente explained serving pasta in cones was inspired by a practice he witnessed in southern Italy after World War II. The economy had crashed, "so there was no china." He continued, "The women, the wives, they cooked the food and put in this paper cone, so they bring it to the husband, and it stays hot.”

    What's on the Menu?

Anto Pizza offers traditional pasta dishes such as Fettucini Alfredo, Spaghetti Carbonara, and Tortellini Vodka. Pizza is also a popular option with your choice of thin or thick crust and toppings such as Prosciutto, Arugula, and Mozzarella or Margarita.

According to Yelp, some of the most popular dishes are Fried Olives, Fried Calamari, and Pistachio Ravioli.

Yelp reviews are positive with this visitor from Cincinnati saying, "This place is incredible. It's the mom-and-pop, diamond-in-the-rough, best-kept-secret kind of restaurant that you dream of but so rarely actually find when you're visiting a new city."

While another reviewer said, "This is one of my favorite restaurants in all of Chicago. It is a small, casual restaurant with the most incredible food."

    The Details

Anton Pizza is located at 1547 W. Jarvis Avenue.
