Spokesdog Contest Underway: Your Dog Could Be the Face of Columbia Craft’s Bark Brew
Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services (PAALS) and Columbia Craft Brewery have teamed up for an exciting Spokesdog Contest to find the perfect canine face for Columbia Craft’s seasonal release, Bark Brew. Dog owners across the Midlands can enter their furry friends into the contest by registering online at gogophotocontest.com/barkbrew from July 18 through August 31. Two Gamecocks change jersey numbers
The departure by Ahmari Huggins-Bruce has resulted in a couple of number changes for the South Carolina football team. Huggins-Bruce, a wide receiver, wore the No. 1 during his brief time with the Gamecocks. Quarterback Robby Ashford claimed the jersey number, a day after Huggins-Bruce left the program. The No. 4, which Ashford vacated, will now be worn by wide receiver Tyshawn Russell, who'd worn the No. 21 jersey since last season.
Simpkins ready to bring his energy, physicality to offensive line
Following the end of last season, South Carolina looked to the NCAA Transfer Portal and added a few offensive linemen to the roster with one being Torricelli Simpkins III. The 6-foot-5, 319-pound Simpkins started his collegiate career at North Carolina Central in 2020 before transferring to South Carolina. In 2023, Simpkins was a first team All-MEAC selection while also being named the MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Year and a third team HBCU All-American selection.
Irmo Varsity Football Beats Oceanside To Begin The Season 1-0
Irmo starts the 2024 season with a 35-7 victory over the Oceanside Landsharks. The Yellow Jackets’ first TD of the season came after a long TD pass from Senior QB AJ Brand to Sophomore WR Maleek Miller for 76 yards. Irmo went ahead 14-0 after another TD pass by Brand. This time senior Joey Albritton caught it for a 22-yard score. Oceanside scored a TD in the 2nd quarter but Irmo scored again right before halftime after AJ Brand ran for a 21-yard TD. In the 4th quarter, AJ Brand threw a 3rd TD pass to senior Kyle Mitchell for a 4-yard score. Senior Anton Jones ran it in to score late in the 4th quarter to make it a 35-7 final.
