Garbage Truck Catches Fire in Rohnert Park
A fire on the back of a garbage truck in Rohnert Park could’ve been a lot worse. Aware of the fire, the driver went into an empty parking lot and dumped the burning pile of trash there allowing for firefighters to put it out. Once the fire was out, workers with Recology along with the city picked the trash back up again and disposed of contaminants. The cause of the fire is unknown but Rohnert Park City officials took the opportunity to remind folks to dispose of old batteries and flammable items with care. Rohnert Park has a battery drop off box at the Department of Public Safety’s station at 500 City Center Drive.

But, it needs to take a more comprehensive approach to analyzing police practices. OIR Group looked at 56 allegations of misconduct made against the Santa Rosa Police Department in 2023, which was a dozen fewer than in 2022. It also examined 20 random cases out of nearly 200 where officers used force. The report commended officers for activating their body-worn cameras every time they responded to a scene.

Santa Rosa Fire Department Squads to be First New Emergency Response Units Added Since 2009
On Tues., July 16, 2024, at 8:00 a.m., the Santa Rosa Fire Department (SRFD) will place two advanced life support (paramedic staffed) squads into service. This will be the first time the Fire Department has added additional staffed apparatus since 2009 when the Fire Department responded to just over 19,000 incidents annually. With over 30,000 incidents in 2023, the squads will enable the SRFD to provide a higher level of service to our community, 24 hours a day. These lighter, more agile units will each be staffed with a crew of two, who can respond to any emergency. This will improve our ability to comply with NFPA 1710.
