Forestville: Portion Of Hwy 116 To Close This Weekend For Bridge Repairs

A portion of state Highway 116, also known as Gravenstein Highway, will be closed in Forestville starting Friday at 7 p.m. through 7 p.m. Monday for bridge repairs, according to Caltrans.

Caltrans crews will make repairs to Jones Bridge, including removing excessive asphalt and strengthening the bridge by installing precast concrete girders to the bridge's abutment, bringing the bridge into state compliance.

The bridge was found to be out of compliance during recent inspections, Caltrans said. The 22-foot, two-lane bridge was constructed in 1921 and rebuilt in 1956. The bridge's roadway has been repaved many times, resulting in excess asphalt that has caused the bridge to take on too much weight.

Caltrans is asking motorists to use alternative routes, specifically Mirabel, Laguna, and Guerneville roads. The detour will result in an extra 5.2 miles, or an estimated seven minutes, of travel. Detour signs will be visible.
