The founder of California's Bravus Brewing Co., which claims to be North America's original non-alcoholic craft brewery, has launched a dedicated zero-proof spirits brand alongside an inaugural agave release. On Tuesday, Philip Brandes rolled out La Planta Reposado Tequila Alternative, a nonalcoholic beverage produced using many of the same techniques perfected at Bravus in its range of IPAs, porters and blonde ales. Now available online at $34.95, the teetotaling spirit is said to balance hints of caramel, vanilla, mild heat and oak on the palate. Power restored at overcrowded California prison after outage amid heat wave
VACAVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Power was restored Tuesday at an overcrowded California men’s prison that ran on emergency generator power for three days following a major electrical outage amid a heat wave. The problem was fixed shortly after 2 p.m. at California State Prison, Solano, according to the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The electricity had been out since Sunday at the facility in Vacaville, about 40 miles (65 kilometers) southwest of Sacramento. Temperatures in the city topped 96 degrees (35.5 Celsius) on Sunday and the weather remained hot into the week. Running water, ice and cooling fans were made available “to help manage heat-related concerns,” the corrections department said in a statement Monday.

Purse Snatched After Gun Threat In Walnut Creek Wednesday
Two people, one of them maintaining he had a gun, took a purse from a victim outside the Sports Basement, 1881 Ygnacio Valley Road, shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday. The female victim was uninjured. Initial reports were that she was approached by a black male subject who told her he had a weapon and demanded her purse. The man took the bag and got into a black Mercedes with a black female suspect waiting behind the wheel. The pair drove away and were not located by police.
