Charlie Lindgren will cheer hard for brother Ryan

Brothers Charlie and Ryan were rivals for a brief time in their Eastern Conference First Round matchup. After the New York Rangers swept the Washington Capitals, things are almost back to normal between them.

“We’re in that awkward phase where I’m not ready to reach out,” Charlie said on Capitals breakup day. “It was fun for our family to play each other in the first round. To play against him in the Stanley Cup Playoffs was a treasure, I just wish it would’ve gone better.”

Charlie Lindgren will root for brother Ryan

The 30-year-old backstop finally got his chance to be a starter this season after toiling with the Montreal Canadiens and St. Louis Blues over the last seven years. In 2023-34, he posted a 25-16-7 record with a 2.67 goals against average, and a .911 save percentage to help the Capitals clinch the second wild card spot in the East.

Unfortunately for him, they ran into the Rangers who won the Presidents’ Trophy with 55 wins and 114 points in the regular season. Charlie was unable to stop his brother’s team bowing out in four games.

“I just said, ‘I love you bro and good luck,'” Charlie revealed what he told Ryan on the handshake line.

“I’ll talk to him soon and get this awkward situation out of the way. I’ll be cheering hard for him and hopefully they can get it done in the playoffs.”

Before the series started, Ryan joked that they agreed not to speak until it was over. Now that it is, everyone wants to know if Charlie will be attending Rangers’ games in support.

“It’s probably too soon right now. If they get to the Conference Final or Stanley Cup Final, I’d love to go out to see him and cheer him on.”
