Most important 2024-25 New York Rangers No. 11-15: Two big prospects make top-15

Continuing with our 2024-25 rankings of the most important New York Rangers, we most on to spots 11 to 15. In our previous release, Matt Rempe cracked the top 20 as a fan favorite, while young guns Will Cuylle and Zac Jones landed at No. 18 and 16, respectively.

No.s 11-15 on most important New York Rangers rankings

15. Brennan Othmann (forward)

One of the most highly-touted prospects in the Rangers organization, Brennan Othmann looks as though he may be ready to make the jump to the NHL. Othmann was given a shot in three games with the big club last season, and while he looked good, failed to find the score sheet. He scored 21 goals and 49 points with the Hartford Wolf Pack in 67 AHL games this past season in what was a successful development year.

Othmann will fight for a spot on the opening night roster this fall. Seeing as the left wing is mostly locked up, there is certainly a world in which he could battle for a right-wing spot. Nonetheless, Othmann is a large part of the Rangers future, and could even make an impact as soon as this season. A vital part of the Rangers organization, he lands at No. 15.

14 – Braden Schneider (defenseman)

Braden Schneider was a key piece of the Rangers’ defense last season. At just 22 years old, he has already played in three NHL seasons with the Blueshirts and is looking to take the next step in his development. Schneider’s potential was seen in glimpses last season where he really looked like he was maturing into a top-4 defenseman.

Last season, Schneider registered 19 points and averaged 15:53 of ice time per game. While his numbers have slowly increased over his three seasons, a bigger jump is on his mind. If he can make that jump, he may even find himself with consistent top-4 minutes and some added responsibility. When he was given the chance in the playoffs last season paired with K’Andre Miller, he did not disappoint. We expect a big season from Schneider, earning him spot No. 14.

13 – Filip Chytil (forward)

Filip Chytil has the chance to really catapult this Rangers roster. However, that is largely dependent on his health. After missing the majority of last season with another head injury, Chytil is looking for a major bounce-back. After scoring 22 goals and 45 points just two seasons ago, Chytil could give the Rangers incredible depth at the center position, if he can find his form at 100%.

Who knows how far the Rangers would have gone if they had a healthy Chytil for the entire season? Looking forward, having Mika Zibanejad, Vincent Trocheck, and Chytil down the middle gives New York a very strong forward group. While his status is up in the air, Chytil is an incredibly skilled player who could really make an impact this season if he stays healthy. He earns No. 13 on our list.

12 – Gabe Perreault (forward)

As the highest-ranking prospect on our list, Gabe Perreault looks like a future game-changer for the Rangers. While he will return to Boston College for his sophomore season, the 2023 first-round pick is still a vital part of the Rangers organization. Depending on how far Boston College makes it in the NCAA tournament this year, Perreault may even make his Rangers debut before next season.

Last season, Perreault notched 19 goals and 60 points in just 36 games as a true freshman. He also suited up for the United States in the World Junior Championship, where he had three goals and 10 points in seven games. Boston College fell short in the NCAA championship, meaning Perreault will have his shot at redemption this year. He has incredible potential and will be a very good New York Ranger. He lands at spot 12 on our list.

11 – K’Andre Miller (defenseman)

K’Andre Miller is entering a very important season in his growth as an NHL defenseman. He has been a mainstay on the second pairing for some time but seems primed to take a big step in his game. He registered 30 points last season, and 43 two seasons ago. Now, he should be taking on a larger role with the Rangers.

Last season we saw his defensive game really improve, but keep an eye on Miller’s offensive production in the coming year. He may even quarterback the second power-play unit, which should help those point totals. Arguably, Miller could be considered New York’s second-best defenseman behind Adam Fox.

At just 24 years old, he is another young, yet very important piece of the Rangers core. He should have a huge season for the Blueshirts, earning him No. 11 on our list.
