GBI Investigating Fatal Shooting of Teen Levarius Ates in Hawkinsville, Community Urged to Aid Search for Justice
In a developing story out of Hawkinsville, GA, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is actively probing a shooting incident that tragically ended the life of 17-year-old Levarius Ke’Shay Madrad Ates from Eastman, Georgia. According to a press release from the GBI, after being critically injured in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 28, Ates succumbed to his injuries the following day, with no arrests having been made thus far in the case.

Mercer On Mission team tests for lead in paint, soil in Belize
A Mercer University team tested for lead in paint and soil this summer as part of a new Mercer On Mission program in Belize. Seventeen Mercer students participated in the program, which included screening paint on murals, outdoor exercise equipment and playground structures, as well as newly purchased paint. The team also trained students and faculty from the University of Belize to test for lead, so they may continue the work in their country.
