    FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A popular 80’s hairstyle has made a comeback.

Often referred to as the “business-in-the-front, party-in-the-back,” the hairdo is formed by cutting the hair short on the top and sides of the head, allowing it to grow longer in the back.

One competition is all about celebrating the bold and outrageous hairstyle.

“I was cuddling with my mom, and she was on Facebook, and we saw a national mullet competition, and I was like, ‘Hey mom, can I enter that?'” Calvin Johnson, a 10-year-old Mullet Champ contestant, said.

Mullet Champ holds an annual mullet champion contest, traveling across the country searching for the wildest mullet out there.

Calvin’s mullet addiction started when he saw the mullet competition on TV. Shortly after, he started growing his own.

Calvin has been styling his mullet for three years and doesn’t plan on cutting it anytime soon.

“How much longer do you want it to go down?” Chris Johnson, Calvin’s dad, asked.

“I want it to go down under my rib,” Calvin said.

    “Your bottom ribs?” Chris asked.

“Yep, my bottom ribs,” Calvin clarified.

At the kickoff of Mullet Champ’s second round, Calvin was in 33rd place.

The rankings are based on 3 factors: public and judge votes, celebrity endorsements, and the amount of money raised for Jared Allen’s home for wounded warriors. Calvin said this charity has a special meaning to him.

“My dad is a medic in the Army and he helps sick and wounded people,” Calvin said.

But that’s not the only thing keeping Calvin interested in this competition.
