A blind horse named Lacy was rescued from a canal by the Poudre Fire Authority (PFA) on Saturday morning.

According to an X post by the Poudre Fire Authority, the canal was near the intersection of N. Giddings Rd. and E. CR 56. PFA's Large Animal Rescue Team was dispatched at 9:52 a.m. and found Lacy up to her shoulders in moderate flowing water.

A firefighter entered the canal and put a harness on Lacy to guide her to safety and so they would not be separated. The rescuers guided Lacy downstream and under a bridge to an area with less steep banks, but Lacy was unable to exit the water on her own (even with help from responders) and lay down.

Responders sedated Lacy and connected her to a winch system. They were able to pull her up the bank and to shore. A CSU medical team checked her vitals and began care. Lacy suffered some cuts and scrapes on her legs but was able to stand and put the incident behind her once the sedation wore off.
