That familiar orange glow is back in Fort Collins, with wildfires burning across the West and Canada.

A wildfire and smoke map shows Fort Collins covered by a "medium density" smoke cloud, with many fires burning in other states to the north, southwest and northwest.

Winds in Fort Collins were blowing from the northwest on Monday morning, and the National Weather Service attributed the smoke to fires in the western United States and Canada.

The Livermore Fire Protection District reported just after 3 p.m. Monday that it extinguished a fire called the Living Waters Fire. A map showed its location on Larimer County Road 80E just off U.S. Highway 287.

The department didn't report a size on the fire.

The fire department said in a post to X.com that it discovered another area of smoke, "which was a fire extinguished by heavy rains."

What does the forecast say about smoke?

The National Weather Service in Boulder said the sky will be "somewhat smoky" Monday, and most smoke will remain "aloft."

It's expected to be around all week, the weather service said in a post to the X platform on Monday afternoon.

What warnings are in effect due to air quality

The Colorado Department of Health and Environment says visibility on the Front Range will be poor Monday and could get worse on Tuesday.

Particulate matter in the air Monday and Tuesday is supposed to range from moderate to unhealthy for unusually sensitive people.

Those with heart disease, respiratory illnesses, the very young and the elderly can reduce exertion or go indoors when smoke is present, the department says.

The areas affected by the smoke outlook are Fort Collins, Boulder, Denver and surrounding areas, according to the agency.

In addition, ozone levels on Monday and Tuesday will range from unhealthy for sensitive groups to simply unhealthy.

People with heart or lung disease, along with older adults and children, are urged to avoid heavy or prolonged exertion both days. The health department recommends that all others should reduce their heavy or prolonged outdoor exertion.
