Two Encon officers remove rattlesnake from Lake George hotel
Two environmental conservation officers were in the right place at the right time to catch a rattlesnake at a hotel. The officers were attending a training course in Lake George on the safe handling of rattlesnakes, when they received a call that a snake had gotten into the common area of a hotel on the lake, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation.

Driving back from Vermont a week ago for a short trip, we stopped on the New York State Thruway to fill up and grab a coffee. As per usual on a Summer Sunday, the highway was crowded with traffic, mostly families trying to get back to Jersey to prepare for the coming work week. It was early so the crowds weren't too bad for us, but the lines at the other storefronts were starting to grow.
Upgraded Rest Stop Opens on New York State Thruway
The New York State Thruway Authority is celebrating this week as one of the most traveled roads in New York become a little more "convenient" for Hudson Valley drivers. If you've ever found yourself driving on the New York State Thruway you know that every 50 miles or so there are service areas that drivers can use to fuel up, stretch their legs, use the restroom, and or get something to eat. The New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA) currently has 27 service areas along the 500+ miles of controlled-access toll roads.
NY weather update: Flash flood warning affecting Broome and Delaware counties Thursday night
An updated flash flood warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 7:56 p.m. in effect until 10 p.m. for Broome and Delaware counties. "At 7:56 p.m., Doppler radar indicated that the showers and thunderstorms that produced heavy rain across the warned area have weakened and were moving east of the warned area. Between 2.5 and 4 inches of rain have fallen based on rain gauge and radar estimates. Additional rainfall amounts up to one half inch are still possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly," according to the weather service. "Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas."
